Irida Classical is an independent record label run by a team with a passion for contemporary classical music. The label was founded by the composer Alkis Papadopoulos in 2003 as a means to release a collection of chamber works by the Greek composer Dimitris Dragatakis, titled 'Chamber Music I'. Its warm reception by critics and musicophiles was an incentive to attempt new projects, and in the following year 'Strings' Breeze', an album with works for string quintet by Yiannis Drositis, Kostas Flerianos and Alkis Papadopoulos, was released, followed shortly after by 'Orchestral Suites' with works by Periklis Koukos, both of which were once again well received.
Since then, the label's team has continued in its search for interesting new musical offerings, focusing mainly (but not exclusively) on composers and performers from, or based in Greece. The team's aim in this endeavour is to document and share with the music world the wealth of new musical expression coming from our corner of the Mediterranean.
